The YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) was founded in 1844 and is one of the worlds largest charities.
It currently boasts 40 million members accross the globe in over 130 countries and proudly holds the title of the creator of basketball.
Bolton YMCA was founded in 1884. Recently Bolton YMCA celebrated it's 125th Anniversary and is still going strong with over one thousand youth and children using it's club and facilities along with other community groups.

- The YMCA stands for :
- A world-wide organisation based on the equal value of all persons. Respect and freedom for all, tolerance and understanding between people of different opinions. Active concern for the needs of the community.
- The YMCA aims to : provide a welcome to members for themselves in a meeting place which is theirs to share, where friendships can be made and guidance sought.
- To develop activities which stimulate and challenge its members in an environment that enables them to take responsibility and find a sense of achievement. Involve all members in care and work for others. Create opportunities for exchanging views, so that its members can improve their understanding of the world, themselves and others.
- BOLTON YMCA is committed to : its vision of an inclusive movement* , transforming communities so that all young people can truly belong, contribute and thrive, regardless of their past experiences or present social circumstances.
